Attorney Welch charged the school board $220,000 in legal fees in a five month period. Sources tell the Highlighter that Attorney Welch's fraternity brother, Tommy Miller and family, is racking up at least $100,000 a year from SD209 in salaries, contracts, and stipends paid by the taxpayers of Proviso Township.

The team to beat in 2007 or shall I say the team that cant be beat is the team supported by the Proviso Township Dem. Org. Dorris and Wicks are incumbents along with Library board member Dorthy smith are running for re-election to sd88. Dorris and wicks have a solid educational voting record and they are Independent candidates. They seek support not ownership like the oposition candidates.As a parent and supporter of the Families First team I want all parents to come to the meetings and you will soon see who is the best team for the board. How dare you all say no patronage hiring when you have tons of unqualified friends who work there. You all are guilty to throwing the rock and hiding your hands. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. Get down to the business of educating children. None of you would know solid educational best practice if it jumped on your backs. Right now the educational system in District 88 is this: the administrators are afraid of the board, the board is afraid of the community, the teachers are afraid of the children, and the children aren't afraid of anyone. And you all want to pretend that education is priority. Yeah right.....The only time you all really reach out to parents is to rally them for something you want to have supported or opposed. You have not invited them to be proactive and progressive educational advocates. Dorris hasn't had anyone bright enough to occupy a position except the lady who takes attendance and that hasn't been done correctly since the board was primarily caucasian. Why aren't any of my days correct on my check? Why can't I get a response other than I don't know what happened? Wicks.....well I guess custodians don't really matter, why would our buildings need to be clean....there's only children there everyday. But I guess if you are bipolar and say that you'll tell John Wicks who can't even pay his mortgage on time....Oh well I guess that's not important. Perhaps you all will support the bill so you all can get kicked out and the real education of children can begin.

Finally, an intelligent comment from someone who seems to be in a position to confront the lies, manipulations, and deceit propagated by some of these board members.
You know, the school districts of 88, 89, and 209 are all plagued by the same sickness: board members or wannabe board members whose real goals are to further their personal agendas and to hell with the children. Predominantly Black, I wonder if these individuals see board membership as an opportunity to get their piece of the pie: to hire their friends and relatives, to make some illicit money or get some comps on the side, and to emulate what the Caucasian power-brokers have been doing in these districts for years and years.
My question is, "When the hell do the kids get a turn?". When do the kids get the resources they deserve? When will all or most monies be allocated and spent on the needs of our children?
The political incest in these districts is simply amazing. The same names come up over and over again. If not the same names, then new names of people who are friends, relatives, or cronies of the old names. And, the wheel goes round and round with little or no demonstrable progress in terms of fulfilling our children's needs.
Take a look at some of the people who are running for the District 209 board. A lame has-been whose focus is on how many Disney World trips she can take, an auntie of the business manager of district 209, and Welch's crew of garbage.
Those who truly care about children and their educations should be irate.
You are right about the political incest in ALL the school boards however as usual the fingers are pointing in the wrong directions. But then that is just what the opposition wants everyone to think! I always say it is better to root for a devil you know than one that you don't. Take the Millers, Andersons, and Castrejons of the world--politicals prostitutes and whores. What's the difference? Prostitutes (Castrejon) do it for the someone else and whores (Anderson and Miller) personal gratification. You know what I am tried of is that no one really knows what is going on except the players themselves and the rest just speculate and assume. The Wicks' and Dorris' try to make a difference and unfortunately are misunderstood by their intentions because of the political undertow. At least their hearts are in the right place -- FOR THE CHILDREN of SCHOOL DISTRICT 88. Because if you think about it if they were in this for the $$$,$$$.00, I think they would have multiple jobs in quasi-prominent places, contracts for business to make them look better on their routes, family members from the SAME HOUSEHOLD employed by the district and a multitude of other for instances.
