I can only hope & pray that Maywood PD is heading in the right direction. For far too many years the Officers have been report takers. We need Law ENFORCEMENT Officers. Public safety should be the first priority of the Village Board. With the recent murders in Maywood without any arrests can indicates that the department is incompetent.

I can never blame unsolved murders on anyone but i can blame inept leadership on someone. Maywood police officers are beating people up, and no one is doing anything about it. Masariegos was informed about it a long time ago and he supports it. I agree get rid of him too.
Well with only 18% of solved murders that leaves a large margin of improvement for the Maywood PD.
They need to re-organize the dept and substance abuse testing for all employees in the department.

I was really surprised to read the comments regarding the Maywood Police Department. From my experience, they have been very competent and very dedicated to protecting the people of Maywood. As I read some of the comments, I wondered if some of us have forgotten who the enemy truly is. The enemy of every law abiding citizen are the criminals, gang members, and drug pushers, frequenting our streets and trying to infiltrate our schools.
If there is competition within the Police Department, it should be about who can get the most gang bangers off the streets, who can bust the most gangs, who can discourage the most drug pushers, and who can solve the unsolved murders. Personally, I am tired of seeing gang members march down the middle of the street in two’s and four’s. I suppose they are claiming their territory. I am tired of seeing drug pushers and couriers melting into doorways as patrol cars drive by. I would like to see the Maywood Police Department used more sophisticated surveillance techniques and equipment to round up the drug army that is in Maywood before the drug rings take over.
As far as I can see, the fault of the Maywood Police Department is that with a series of acting chiefs and temporary chiefs, they have not demanded the levels of support that is needed to deal with the extensive problems that are in Maywood. The police did not cause the problems but they have to deal with them. The Maywood Police need more resources, more specialized training, and more personnel in order to serve and protect us, the citizens of Maywood.
But, let us not chew on each other. Let us remember that the criminals are our
real enemy.

Too bad the people complaining about the police don't complain about the drug pushers seducing their children and ruining their lives. Why do not the anti-police people complain about the drug pushers and gangs selling high priced poison on Maywood streets?
