More Smoke and Mirrors....

The insider reports that "Proviso High Schools District 209 has really gone high tech". Sources tell the Highlighter that teachers at both Proviso West and Proviso East have to buy supplies in order to do their jobs. Proviso Math and Science Academy (PMSA) is the only school that has working equipment.

Why is the Insider, Chris Welch, so excited about a website, yet our teachers at East and West have to pay for supplies with their own money?

the new website is still a "work in progress". I'm no computer geek, but just how long does it take to construct a website? The money was approved at the October board meeting. It's the middle of march and the teachers are still not updated, there are no email addresses for teachers or administrators, East West and PMSA still have no websites. etc., etc.
Xerox machines at East and West are constantly broken. No wonder, there are about 160 teachers for 2 machines at East and West. I guess PMSA has working machines, but they only have about 25 teachers for 2 machines.

Some high schools have the students update and create the a school's website. Also, couldn't Proviso have saved money by letting the students and their PR person do it? I know the PR person is not that bright, but they could have had the students do it.

It just seems that Fields wanted to get his friend a contract. HE did the same thing at Mundelein. He was not able to get away with as much at Mundelein so now Fields is raping our school.

What type of supplies are th teachers buying? Most teachers DO purchase some things in ALL schools...I am a teracher and I know this for a fact. If they are large purchases, thats ridiculus. Where is their union official?

Proviso's union officals are in Welch's back pocket. After they got what they wanted in the contract they could care less about teachers. President elections are coming up and it time to vote out the president.

Finally there are some new things on the websites. The question is, do we need all this junk. How many taxpayers have access to the web? How many parents want to see the course offerings and descriptions of every course taught ( and not taught, but offered) at Proviso?

It would have been a good idea to have students update and maiantian the site for a class and credit and cheaper. It would be nice to have working computer labs...West has a lab with computers but none of them work. It would be nice to see some changes. Although this was the first week i visited the school and saw true learning, students running to get to class, clear hallways. Could a change be near?
